You may experience stutter, echo, or distorted sound on the Pavilion if the hardware acceleration is not set correctly. To experience good audio quality, adjust the hardware acceleration slider for speaker in the Device Manger by following these steps:

1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
2. Click Sounds and Audio Devices.
3. Under Speaker settings, click Advanced.
4. Click the Performance tab.
5. Change the Hardware Acceleration slider's position.

NOTE: The slider can be positioned from "none" to "full" depending on the usage.

6. Click Apply and OK.

Repeat steps 5 & 6 till you get optimum audio performance.

At optimal level, sound will be clear and free from static or echo.

Also, I recommend you enable DMA. To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager, follow these steps:

1. Open Device Manager.

2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.

3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.

4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if the current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is:

a) Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK.

b) Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if Available.
